Housing and Rehoming Pets

A.D.O.P.T. provides safe and nurturing temporary housing for homeless pets, ensuring they receive the care and attention they need while waiting for their forever homes. Our shelter is committed to creating a loving environment where each animal is valued and cherished until they find their perfect match. Click here for more information about our adoption process and policies.

Owner Surrender and Stray Intake

While most of our animals come through shelter transfers, we also accept a limited number of owner surrenders. Our goal is to provide a safe and caring environment for pets who need to find new homes.

The owner surrender process involves completing an “Animal Intake Request” form by phone or online. Our Intake Committee reviews requests to ensure the animal’s suitability for adoption. A surrender fee of $100 for animals and $50 for small critters applies.

For stray animals, A.D.O.P.T. is not licensed to take them in directly. Strays must be surrendered to local animal control centers, where they are held for the required period to allow owners to reclaim them. Afterward, efforts are made to place them in loving homes or transfer them to no-kill shelters like A.D.O.P.T. Click here for more information about our owner surrender process.

Medical Clinic

Our A.D.O.P.T. Clinic ensures that all companion animals have access to essential medical care. We offer affordable spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations to all pet owners, aiming to ensure that no pet is denied wellness care due to expense.

The Spay/Neuter Program is available to all pet owners in the west Chicago suburbs. We collaborate with Dupage County to offer free services to low-income families and provide pre-surgical exams, vaccinations, and blood tests for dogs and cats. Our Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic offers essential vaccinations administered by licensed veterinarians. Low-cost euthanasia services are also available. Training

A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter has partnered with Positive Solutions for A Sound Beginning NFP to create “A.D.O.P.T. Training for A Sound Beginning.” Our training program focuses on 100% positive reinforcement training using gentle methods. The training facility, located at 425 Industrial Drive Unit 133A next to the shelter, offers classes and resources for the community.

Our mission is to provide a fun and supportive training experience that builds trusting relationships that last a lifetime. We offer a variety of training classes designed to enhance the human-animal bond through positive and supportive techniques. Donations are welcomed to help fund our training and resource center, enabling us to expand our services and reach more pet owners in need.
