- Volunteers are always needed and are very important to provide services that mean so much for the animals in our shelter!
- Volunteers can help in many ways and no matter how you choose to help, the animals benefit.
- Volunteers at A.D.O.P.T. have one thing in common: they`re all making a difference for animals in our community.
- Volunteers are an integral part of our team. You can choose to work directly with the animals or contribute your time and talent in other ways.
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Children 10 years and up (cat side) or 12 years and up (dog side) may be accepted to volunteer only with a parent or guardian who will remain with them at all times and actively work along with the child.

We currently need weekday volunteers willing to work for 3 to 4 hours once a week in the morning or evening.
Our shelter volunteers handle routine animal care and sanitation tasks – which goes a long way toward keeping A.D.O.P.T. in operation!
Shelter volunteers generally work either with our cats or our dogs, or both based on preference. Our staff will help you become familiar with the routine.
Volunteers must be able to commit to a regular schedule.
Receptionists
- To answer phones and greet adopters during adoption hours.
Bookkeeping
- To enter AP and AR into QuickBooks – hours are flexible. QB experience necessary.
Feline care volunteer duties:
- Wash food and water dishes and see that cats and kittens have fresh water and appropriate food.
- Empty, sanitize and re-fill litter boxes.
- Tidy up cat areas.
- Groom cats as needed.
- Being generous with the TLC to help ensure our cats and kittens are socialized for loving homes.
Canine care volunteer duties:
- Wash food and water dishes and see that dogs and puppies have food and fresh water.
- "Scoop detail" in dog runs, and sanitize indoor kennel areas.
- Leash-walk dogs and puppies as needed, and provide obedience work if qualified.
- Toss toys, rub bellies, scratch ears and generally help ensure that our dogs and puppies are socialized for loving homes.
