 Welcome to Our Website!

Finding homes for our voiceless animals is a priority for us. The shelter houses abandoned and neglected animals and rehabilitates them to become a companion for the family. Find out more about ADOPT and how you can help us, help the animals. ADOPT (Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment) located in Naperville, IL (directions) is a no-kill, 501(c)3 non-profit, humane organization. Since opening on October 31, 1989, A.D.O.P.T. has found homes for over 20,000 pets. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of our generous volunteers to find homes for between fifteen and fifty kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs every week. We continue to spend our days working long hours because we love the animals and want to save them by finding a good home for as many of them as we can!

It is with great sadness that we report that Boris, the first beneficiary of the Wilbur Memorial Fund, lost the battle to overcome his medical issues. For more information please go to our Adopt A Dog section.

2009: A Year of Hope and Healing

Every year A.D.O.P.T. works with hundreds of animals, some with life-threatening conditions, to provide them with medical attention and rehabilitation when needed and to ensure that each animal is placed in a loving home. Read about some of the stories that touched our hearts this year. See for yourself what we can accomplish with the help of our volunteers and from the donations of people just like you. We hope you’ll consider showing your support by adopting one of our special animals, by volunteering a few hours a week or fostering an animal, or by a generous donation that will enable us to help many more animals in need.

Spay Day 2010 Photo Contest

Spay Day is The Humane Society of the United States’ and Humane Society International’s annual event to inspire people to save animals’ lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats.

To support Spay Day, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International host the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate our pets, raise funds for spaying and neutering, and win great prizes! You can enter your own pet or simply vote for one of the animals already entered. Pets entered into the Fundraiser Category can help raise money for their chosen charity.

Entering the contest is easy and free--simply upload a digital photo of your pet and provide a little information about him or her. You can also enter as a memorial tribute to a pet who is no longer with us. Make sure to chose A.D.O.P.T. as your charity to help raise money for the shelter. Then share your entry with your family and friends either by email or on Facebook!

To enter or vote, go to:

For more information on the importance of spaying or neutering your pets, see our article on the Spay Day 2010.
